Central Illinois Track Club

Focused on Long

Term Athlete Development

Founded in Bloomington in 2015, Central Illinois Track Club is a premier age-group USA Track & Field program dedicated to unlocking the full potential of every athlete who walks through our doors. Under the leadership of Coach Todd Lowder and a hand-selected coaching staff with collegiate, national, and international experience, we deliver high-level coaching that combines proven technical expertise with personalized training plans tailored to each athlete’s age, event, and goals.

Central Illinois Track Club —

Where High-Level Coaching Meets Whole-Athlete Development

At CIT, we don’t just coach sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, or throwers — we develop the whole athlete. While our athletes consistently achieve new personal bests through elite technical instruction in mechanics, speed development, strength training, and race strategy, we place equal emphasis on the mental side of performance. Every practice and competition is designed to build:

Unshakeable mindset – teaching athletes how to stay focused under pressure and embrace the process of daily improvement.

Resilience – turning setbacks into fuel, learning to bounce back stronger from tough workouts, missed marks, or disappointing races.

Confidence – fostering belief in their ability that carries far beyond the track into school, life, and future pursuits.

Whether your child is just discovering their love for track & field or is already a seasoned competitor chasing state and national titles, CIT creates an environment where technical excellence and character development go hand in hand. We celebrate PRs on the scoreboard and the personal growth that happens when athletes learn to push through discomfort, support their teammates, and believe in themselves.

We take a long term approach to athlete development. Helping athletes of every skill level improve their performances.

Central Illinois Track is not about recruiting the best kids so we can look good. Its about promoting a love for the sport of Track and Field. Do we love coaching top level athletes? Yes! It's just not our singular focus.

We are here to meet your athlete where they are, but not leave them there. We will work to help improve their form and technique so they can fulfill their maximum potential. This sometime means form adjustment, identifying imbalances, or even improving mobility. No two athletes are the same and that is part of the beauty of coaching.

Fall Speed Development

Small group speed development. This session runs 6 weeks with the sole focus of improving max velocity. We meet 2 x per week and use resisted sprint devices, high speed treadmills, and video analysis to improve speed.

Indoor Session

This session begins the first week of November and runs through January. Meeting 2x per week this session includes 3-4 meet opportunities and gives athletes a jump start on the indoor season. Due to facility constraints this session is only focused on the running events and athletes are seperated into distance, sprints, and/or hurdles.

Summer Session

This is our main session. This session is run like a regular track club offering coaching in all areas except pole vault. We offer the optional opportunity to participate in 5-7 meets including 2-3 meets right here at Illinois Wesleyan University. Coaching is offered in all areas and athletes can choose to stick to smaller meets or pursue qualifying for the AAU Jr Olympic Meet.

Meet Coach Lowder

Coach Lowder founded Central Illinois Track (CIT) in 2015 with a clear vision: to provide Track & Field athletes an opportunity to continue developing their skills and passion for the sport beyond the high school season.

From day one, the program’s focus has been—and remains today—to offer encouragement, teach proper form and technique, and make training fun.

In addition to serving as Founder and Head Coach of Central Illinois Track, Todd is the Director of Track & Field and Director of Sports Performance at Illinois Wesleyan University. He is a proud father of three (Ethan, Evan, and Piper) and has been married to his wife, Heather, for 31 years.
